Montval watercolour paper was created in the early 2th century at the request of painter and engraver Gaspard Maillol. The paper has since acquired new working properties.

A notable improvement is the ability to erase or lift. Using water and a sponge or brush, artists can lift watercolours off the page and re-work the page.
